Regional Consultation
on Linking Farmers to Markets is the first in a series of
regional workshops intended to share innovative ideas resulting
from Building New Partnerships in the Global Food Chain, an international
workshop
held in late June 2005 in Chicago. At the close of the Chicago
workshop, participants recommended that agricultural leaders
from different countries
would greatly benefit from similar workshops held in their
respective regions. The first of these regional workshops
will be held in Cairo
and will involve participants from throughout the Middle
East and North Africa.
The goal of the forthcoming Regional Consultation
will be to provide a forum where public and private leaders can consider
alternative approaches and models for linking farmers to markets,
especially to the global food chain. The global food system is rapidly
consolidating at both the national and international levels, which has
major implications for farmers worldwide. |
